In a dream, I saw these roots growing out of the bottom of my right foot. I was instinctually repulsed by them. This was no "rooting in the Word"- this was repulsive and HAD to get off of my foot. Be careful where you allow your thoughts to roam, in entertaining malignant attitudes we begin to sprout roots of hatred. It can be hatred towards others, or hatred towards self. I began tearing at the roots, and in so doing, tore the roots off with a layer of flesh. I knew this new, exposed skin, would be fragile and tender. It would require protection and care, as the roots were removed.
I asked the Lord what the roots were and what it meant. I came to understand that when we BEGIN to entertain thoughts and emotions that are not of God, roots IMMEDIATELY start to form where we are standing. The transgressions begin to take root in our souls and in our bodies. We become “stuck” in our sin and we can not walk with the Lord. We are rooted in our anger, our jealousy, our pride, our greed, our lust, our complacency, our vanity.
The roots that started out to simply halt our progress, begin to hold us prisoner. They take us over, they bind us to the nature of the sin and to the hatred. We are crippled by their growth. We are disfigured and a mere memory of who we were created to be in Christ Jesus. Instead, we are bound by roots that feed on lust, anger, greed and complacency.
It is through the grace, mercy and blood of Jesus Christ that our roots can be wiped clean and we can be set free. It is through relationship with Father, Son and Spirit that our tender, cleansed skin is cared for and protected. We are called to walking with the Lord. We can only do this when we are moving with the Spirit, free from the roots that we grew, pruned, maintained and grew accustomed to.
When we confess our sins, we are ripping off the roots and exposing the tender, fresh skin underneath. Ask for His forgiveness, ask Him to wipe you clean. Ask Him to garden your soul and take up residence within your heart. Ask Him to be your Lord and your Savior! Give Him your life, your heart and your trust!
In this place, in this security of relationship, you are set free. You are a new creation made for this day and everything is forgotten. You have been set free from the “Roots of Sin”. You are fresh and new with tender skin that is not seasoned or damaged. You are like a precious babe in His sight, ready to be poured into so you can walk out your destiny. With outstretched hand, He walks next to you, supporting you in your first steps. As you toddle, you may fall, but He will be there to pick you up. You will walk together for the rest of time, until the day you are released to…..run.
